Congratulations to St. Jean's senior Scarlett Collins on her acceptance to Princeton University. Scarlett plans to major in English with a minor in biology and has her sights set on working in scientific research and literacy, medicine, or medical awareness.
As one might expect, Scarlett has been a standout during her years at SJB. She has received 1st Honors every quarter and was ranked first in her class as of this fall. She serves as treasurer of the Student Council, vice president of the National English Honor Society, editor-in-chief of the yearbook, and is a lead member of the Creative Writing Club. She is deeply committed to her school and gives countless hours in service including volunteering weekly in the Advancement Office and serving as a Peer Leader. Peer Leaders work with, and organize activities and seminars for, underclasswomen to help build their confidence and encourage engagement within the school community.
An accomplished musician and performer, Scarlett plays violin, piano, and is trained in voice. She studies ballet and contemporary dance and has performed in community theater in New Orleans where she often spends summers with her family. She has been chosen for highly selective enrichment programs at Weill Cornell Medicine, Columbia University’s Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the American Museum of Natural History, among others. She received a Silver Key for poetry in the 2023 regional Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and earned a Platinum Star Award in the MATHStar II program at Xavier University of Louisiana.
Scarlett is a Eucharistic Minister and volunteers at her parish, Church of the Ascension, on the Upper West Side. She has played violin for Masses at that church as well as at St. Jean Baptiste. Parishioners may remember Scarlett speaking about her faith journey at Masses in November 2023 and about the opportunities she has enjoyed at SJB High School last March. Congratulations again on a well-deserved acceptance, Scarlett!
